1st Annual Artgoddess Tundra Trip!
August 13 - 20, 2005 (Tentative dates)
Join Lauren
from Artgoddess
for a week of
Art, adventure,
spirit
and discovery
in Canada's Northwest Territories...
We will rendez-vous in Yellowknife, capital of the northwest territories located on Great Slave Lake. Then we fly by floatplane to the Great Canadian Ecoventure's basecamp on Whitefish lake, located on the edge of the remote Thelon Game Sanctuary in Canada's arctic barren lands.
Our week together will comprise both the benefits of all Ecoventures trips--guided nature walks, incredible proximity to wildlife most people never see apart from on TV, comfortable accomodations, delicious meals AND a deeply peaceful solitude--as well as a focus on art.
Those who wish may sketch and paint flora and fauna on site with the benefit of Lauren's expertise and guidance. Rendering a subject is one of the best ways to truly see it, and we will spend time on the land letting our spirits rest while we get to know the elements, tiny and large, of this beautiful and rare place.
Trip members need not be artistsand some may wish to observe, rather than participate in some of the art activities. Our voyage will also be a supreme opportunity for journaling, self-reflection and connection with the earth. As described in Lauren's "Tundra Love Story", the barren lands are so free and so removed from the concerns of our modern lives, that visiters are coaxed into a calm and quiet of the soul that allows personal issues to be resolved and clarity to manifest. We will intentionally allow private time on the land for each trip member so that this can occur. The group will also have the opportunity to come together daily in a circle to share, simply listen or just have fun.
Remember what a great time most of us had at slumber parties when we were kids? At Artgoddess, we believe the slumber party has immense value throughout life and we intend to take full advantage of such occasions, as well as the health benefits of laughing until your sides hurt!
Speaking of slumber, accomodations at our camp consist of a common dining room and library, a bathhouse with hot showers(!), and double occupancy Hansen Weatherport vinyl Quonset huts with heaters and wood foors.
We will be at the camp during an excellent wildlife viewing time. We have a chance of seeing musk-oxen herds, caribou, fox, possible moose, ptarmigan & arctic wolves, as well as there being plenty of birding opportunities and the beginning of the magnificent, sensual northern lights and intense autumn colors.
Trip members are strongly encouraged
to bring cameras and lots of film along with painting and sketching
supplies. We will communicate often during the months prior to the trip
and I will help each member with his or her list of what to bring. Those
who live near me (Northern California) will be invited to at least one
pre-trip
get-together for planning
and getting acquainted. Those who don't live near will not miss out, since
we can communicate via an e-mail list and by the end of our adventure,
we'll all have forged an unforgettable bond anyway!
